Supporting Women’s Legal Services on International Women’s Day

Merlo Coffee _International Women's Day

International Women’s Day first started in 1911, a global day that marks the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, and the progressions that have been made in equality for all women.

The day is for celebrating women’s achievements, raising awareness about discrimination, and taking action to drive gender fairness.

The theme for International Women's Day 2024 is Inspire Inclusion which is the opportunity to inspire women to be included and give them a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment.

Supporting Women

In celebration of International Women’s Day, on Friday 8 March, Merlo will be partnering with Women’s Legal Service Qld. An organisation that provides legal assistance and other support to women in the areas of domestic and family violence, family law, child protection, and sexual assault.

The proceeds from every coffee sold in Merlo’s flagship cafes on 8 March will be donated to the service and will directly support the important work of WLSQ in providing free legal and social work support to women experiencing domestic violence and complex family law matters.

Merlo is pleased to be able to support the amazing work of Women’s Legal Service and continue our community involvement across Queensland.

The service has helped over 150,000 women since it was first established when a small group of women realised domestic violence was being kept behind closed doors.

For 40 years WLSQ has provided life-altering assistance to Queensland women and children impacted by domestic and family violence.

The organisation advocates for the rights of women by providing free legal services and playing an essential role in building safer futures for women in Queensland.  To date, they have helped over 150,000 women since first being established.

The donation from Merlo will allow the service to continue providing vital services to women in need, empowering them to navigate challenging legal circumstances and rebuild their lives.
