Our Espresso Blend is a traditional Italian style coffee that’s been our most popular roast for years. It’s full-bodied and reliable, which is why so many people across Australia keep it as their go-to daily coffee.

Why it's our #1 seller

We roast this blend daily in our Brisbane warehouse. It’s a medium-dark roast made from 100% Arabica beans that we source from all over the world. Every batch is cupped on arrival and put through Q-grading to make sure the quality stays exactly where it needs to be.

The secret is the mix of five origins: Colombian for a cocoa base, Papua New Guinea for sweetness, Brazilian for body, and a bit of Costa Rican and Nicaraguan coffee to round it out.

Brewing at home

If you have a home espresso machine, this is the best way to get that café quality in your own kitchen. It also works really well in a stovetop (Moka pot) or an AeroPress. It’s versatile, approachable and very hard to get wrong.

Most daily drinkers find 1kg every 2-4 weeks is perfect. Adjust anytime.

2. Other Brew Methods?

It’s a great all-rounder for stovetops, AeroPress and cold brew.

3. How to Store?

A cool, dark spot in an airtight container keeps it fresh. Keep it out of the sun.

PLUNGER (coarse grind: 6.2)
Plunger (or French Press) and other similar immersion brew devices, which involved the ground coffee having contact with the water for an extended time. A coarse grind is most effective.

AEROPRESS & FILTER (medium grind: 5.7)
This category includes a range of brew devices that use filters (paper or reusable). Devices include the AeroPress, & AeroPressGo, the Hario V60, Chemex & Fretta, the MoccaMaster and other cone-filtered methods where water is poured over ground coffee. A medium grind is recommended.

STOVETOP (medium/fine grind: 5.1)
Also known as Moka pot, a stovetop to produces a strong, concentrated coffee, and is best with medium/fine grind is best for this brew device.

HOME ESPRESSO MACHINE (fine grind: 4.7)
This category includes simple home espresso machines. For example:

    SEMI-PRO ESPRESSO MACHINE (finer grind: 4.2)
    Includes machines for home or workplaces with greater functionality, such as a double boiler that has one boiler for brewing coffee and another for steaming milk. Examples include:

    REFILLABLE PODS (fine grind: 3.5)
    No matter the brand, or type of refillable capsules or pods you have, a fine grind works best.


    TURKISH (very fine grind: 2.0)
    Turkish coffee combines extra finely ground coffee with water, boiling it in a small pot. An extra-fine grind is essential because Turkish coffee is served unfiltered.


    Please note: while we try and grind to your specific settings, we cannot guarantee the grind setting will be exact for your set up.

    My favourite coffee!

    I live in rural QLD and I’m lucky enough that one of the local cafes serves merlo, although I’m out of town so I love being able to have it at home. It’s absolutely perfect every time. The coffee comes freshly ground and is consistently of great quality!

    We have visited cafe's serving merlo on the Sunshine Coast for many years but have only ever used capsule machines at home until recently.
