Private Blend

THE ORIGINAL SIGNATURE BLEND

Lusciously smooth caramel and hazelnut sweetness, crafted as our original café classic.

Private is Merlo's original signature blend, an enduring classic that never goes out of style. Sourced across four premier growing origins on three continents and roasted fresh daily, this medium roast balances sweet caramel, creamy milk chocolate, and roasted hazelnut. Renowned for its velvety mouthfeel and remarkably clean finish, it delivers an indulgent flat white or cappuccino and shines brilliantly as a smooth French press.

WHAT REGULAR DRINKERS SAY
★★★★★

"Simply the best. I have been buying Merlo coffee for at least 10 years now, and I have tried many different varieties. But I always keep coming back to the Private Blend. Consistently smooth, mellow, and a full bodied taste. I love it."

THE TASTE BENCHMARK

Fresh Roasted Private Blend vs Commercial Supermarket Coffee

Supermarket coffee beans sit on warehouse pallets and shelves for up to a year, losing their aromatic oils and natural sweetness. Here is why freshly roasted Private delivers an entirely different experience.

Flavour & Natural Sweetness TASTE

Merlo Private Blend: Rich milk chocolate, toasted hazelnut, and caramel notes with a sweet, lingering finish and zero bitter bite.

Supermarket: Flat, ash-like bitterness with oxidised oils that require added sugar to soften.

Texture in Milk & French Press MOUTHFEEL

Merlo Private Blend: Velvety body and rich crema that holds effortlessly in lattes, flat whites, and plunger brews.

Supermarket: Watery and thin, easily washing out once milk or hot water is added.

Freshness Timeline ROAST DATE

Merlo Private Blend: Roasted daily in Brisbane in small batches and dispatched at peak flavour development.

Supermarket: Packed months prior with vague use-by dates rather than an authentic roast date.

MASTER ROASTING

The 4-Origin Architecture

The Chocolate Foundation • High-Altitude Colombia

Grown on mineral-rich volcanic soils at peak elevation, providing dense milk chocolate body and silky texture.

The Sweet Balance • Costa Rica & Papua New Guinea

Tropical mountain climates contribute creamy sweetness, subtle floral undertones, and toasted hazelnut warmth.

The Silky Finish • Nicaragua

Sourced from favourable microclimates to round out the blend, delivering a clean, sweet caramel aftertaste.
