Merlo’s Movember Mission: Brewing Support for Men’s Health

Merlo’s Movember Mission: Brewing Support for Men’s Health - Merlo Coffee

This year, Merlo has dived head-first into Movember—with heart, purpose, and a whole lot of moustache wax.

Together, our team has raised over $ in support of men’s mental and physical health. Across our cafes, warehouse, and head office, our people have shown up: spreading awareness, getting active, starting conversations, and proudly growing some truly questionable facial hair for a cause that matters.

But behind every kilometre run, every donation made, and every moustache grown, there are stories—deeply personal ones. We spoke to some of our biggest contributors to understand what Movember means to the Merlo family.

Walking Through Loss, Advocacy, and Hope

For Mitchell Branson (Head Office, Marketing), Movember hits close to home.

“I really wanted to go above and beyond this Movember. Losing my Pop to prostate cancer and having gone through mental health issues myself, I understand that men’s health is an important topic that affects everyone. We need to look out for our mates—and ourselves.”

Kendal McLeod (Head Office, Online) took the movement to the pavement—running 60km this month in honour of the men who shaped her life.

“I’m running for a close family friend we lost to prostate cancer, and for two friends we tragically lost to suicide. It’s a reminder of how crucial early detection, support, and honest conversations really are. This run is my promise to keep talking, keep checking in, and keep fighting for the men who mean the world to us.”

In our Toowoomba store, Julia Randall joined the campaign to champion a message she believes isn’t heard enough.

“It still doesn’t feel normalised for men to talk about their mental health. Supporting a movement that creates a safe, supportive space for men to open up and build healthy habits is something I’ll always advocate for.”

From our warehouse, Archie Mitchell shared how simple acts can make a big difference.

“I want to do whatever I can to help build awareness. Whether it’s looking out for mates or just being someone they can talk to, I believe there’s a positive shift happening—and I love being a part of it.”

And at the heart of Merlo, our founder Dean Merlo reflected on the generational weight many men carry.

“Men’s mental health is so important to me. I come from a long line of men who have struggled for three generations. Watching men close to you fall apart is devastating—but with the right help and support, there’s always a way up and out. It’s a great cause, even if I have to grow a truly pathetic moustache to help. It’s so worth it.”

More Than a Fundraiser—It’s a Movement

Movember isn’t just about raising money. It’s about saving lives through awareness, early intervention, and the courage to speak openly. At Merlo, we’re proud to stand behind a cause that reflects the values we hold close—community, connection, and care.

To everyone who has donated, shared their story, started a conversation, or simply asked a mate if they’re okay—thank you. Your support helps change the statistics, break the stigma, and build a future where men feel safe, supported, and seen.

And as for the moustaches… well, they’re just the beginning.
