For our February Bean of the Month, Merlo showcases the ‘Bolivian Mamani Mamani’ coffee, sourced from the Caravani Yungas region of Bolivia - an area widely renowned for producing a consistently high quality in organic coffee.
The Mamani Mamani is a washed Tipica and Caturra varietal, grown between 1500 and 1700 metres above sea level in the shade of native trees. It is fully organic, deliciously sweet and juicy with fresh green apple acidity, a buttery, creamy body with molasses sweetness and damson plum, chocolate and orange notes. The coffee cherries are hand picked, pulped, fermented in small tanks, washed and then sun-dried on raised drying screens (African Beds).
The Mamani Mamani estate is a small family farm owned by Mauricio Mamani and his wife Lorenza Mamani Huanca, who with the help of their two children, farm 8 hectares of coffee and allow the remaining land to grow citrus trees.
The Mamani Mamani has a buttery, creamy body, with fresh green apple acidity and chocolate and orange notes.
Available at all BarMerlos, Merlo Torrefaziones and online for the month of February.
