A deep, brushed turquoise overlaid with delicate golden fans is the feature of the 2018 Merlo Coffee Art Series.
This beautiful piece by Alex Crombie-Van Ewyk is her first to feature fans.
Alex has been involved with Art From The Margins (AFTM) as an exhibiting artist for many years. She has a strong graphic style, is driven to create and is expert with many 2D and 3D mediums.
“I have been making art for most of my life, ever since I could hold a pencil or pen. I am always calm and happy whenever I engage in art, regardless of medium,” Alex said.
“The greatest influences on my works of art are Anime (Japanese Manga and animation) Hokusai, Hiroshige, Gillie and more.”
Alex is a regular member of the AFTM Creative Spirits Artists Meet-Up group, which comes together weekly at AFTM Gallery & Studios in Fortitude Valley.
This is the fourth limited edition set to be release as part of Merlo Coffee’s partnership with AFTM.
About the Merlo Coffee Art Series
The Merlo Coffee Art Series is done in conjunction with AFTM – a creative initiative of Wesley Mission Queensland.
AFTM delivers an arts program focussed on Outsider Art, for those marginalised by disadvantage or experiencing social isolation, for example as a result of disability or mental health issues.
This program furnishes quality opportunities for participants to create, exhibit and sell their art, as well as building social connections and the skills needed to flourish as an artist.
By exhibiting participants’ work, AFTM increase visibility and therefore social acceptance of people living with alternate challenges from the mainstream.
Each year, Merlo selects a piece of art by one of AFTM’s artists and showcases the work on a limited edition set of collectable, high quality porcelain coffee cups and saucers.
