Get to know the product: Hip new drip creates quintessential Queensland coffee
Two iconic Queensland companies have joined forces in a new venture that will showcase Sunshine State produce in thousands of independent supermarkets and food outlets across the country.
Brisbane-based Merlo Coffee and multi-award winning Barambah Organics have launched a quintessentially Queensland cold press iced coffee, using a specially-created blend of selected coffee and 100 per cent organic full cream milk.
Barambah Organics owner and fourth generation farmer, Ian Campbell, said the first bottles of Cold Press Iced Coffee Powered by Merlo Coffee Roasters began running off the production line at his Darra factory last week with 20,000 bottles available nationally.
“What sets this iced coffee apart is its simplicity – it’s just coffee and organic, full fat milk. There are no added sugars, powders, vegetable gum, cocoa or other flavours,” Mr Campbell said.
“Barambah Organics is proud to be teaming up with Merlo, another premium Queensland company, to produce the best coffee drink on the market – and one that also happens to be good for you.”
Mr Merlo, who started his coffee empire in Brisbane in 1992, said when Barambah Organics first floated the idea of creating an iced coffee about a year ago, he jumped at the opportunity for a partnership.
“We believe Merlo beans make the best coffee and Barambah Organics won the title of 2019 Dairy Australia Champion so it’s a perfect fit,” Mr Merlo said.
“The coffee being used in the new iced coffee is a specially-made blend of five origins from three different continents and has a real kick.
“It is cold-dripped for 22 hours to create a smooth, rich flavour and then blended with organic, full cream milk that has a natural sweetness.
“It’s the same as a barista-made store-bought latte.”
Mr Merlo said all 15 Merlo cafes throughout Queensland as well as Merlo’s Melbourne store would stock the new iced coffee and it would also be available to the 1500 cafes and restaurants across the country that use Merlo coffee.
Barambah Organics dietitian Alex Robinson said the new Cold Press Iced Coffee Powered by Merlo Coffee Roasters was one of the lowest calorie iced coffee options on the market.
“There’s only 185 calories in a 375ml bottle of our cold press iced coffee which is a great deal less than other iced coffees, many of which are packed with sugar,” she said.
Cold Press Iced Coffee Powered by Merlo Coffee Roasters will be available to more than 800 IGA, Foodworks and other independent supermarkets, grocers, organic markets and food stores that stock Barambah products.
